CBS To Offer SMS Alerts About Late Program Starts

by Russell Shaw

TVGuide.com’s Stephen Battaglio is first to report that CBS-TV will launch an SMS service that will notify viewers when a prime-time show is delayed due to sports or news coverage.

As Stephen notes, the problem often occurs during the U.S. football season, when games sometimes run over the allotted program time. This can be because of the nature of the game itself- with frequent tv and strategy timeouts- and because the games must run over to extra periods when the score is tied after regulation time has elapsed.

Because most U.S. football games take place on Sundays, the extra time needed to play these games sometimes runs over into Sunday prime time shows.

So what we have here is a service to let you know that depending what time zone you are in, the game is running over and your favorite CBS-TV Sunday shows could be starting a little late.

“CBS Eye-lert” will detail the specific start time for that night’s shows. Free registration is available via CBS.com, CBSNews.com and Sportsline.com.
