Scoop: iVillage Sites Plan On Offering Mobile Messaging
by Russell Shaw

A newly published jobs posting on digitalmediawire entitled “Manager-Wireless Product Development-NBC Universal” could mean that the media company (NBC-TV, Universal Pictures, iVillage, etc.) has some big plans in the mobile messaging space.
This job listing appears to be specifically tailored for the iVillage brand (parent brand as well as sites such as Astrology.com, GardebWeb, the Newborn Channel and gURL.com.
The job description for this position reads that the person hired will be “responsible for development and implementation of new wireless products across multiple categories, including video, WAP, SMS and mobile advertising.”
Further specifics indicate a search for a candidate who can be up to the tasks of:
(Creating) and (managing) a systematic process for monitoring product development pipeline and performance across multiple product lines, tracking launch dates, launch status, and potential delays. Develop and maintain a product development “dashboard” across multiple product categories, and work with key constituencies to make sure key deliverables are achieved on an ongoing basis.
Not only that but applicants better be able to:
“Create and manage systematic process for monitoring content performance across multiple categories, including WAP, SMS, MMS and Video. Coordinate with research to maintain performance “dashboard” for NBCU content.”
Seems like a natural fit. Moms of newborns, out running errands, communicating with the Newborn Channel via SMS. The amount of mobile social media apps that could be built around Astrology.com? That’s just two examples of what Mobile Messaging-equipped iVillage properties could do.
And, as evidencedby this jobs post, iVillage parent NBCU is looking for the right person to help run all this and more.
Just goes to show that more and more media sites are embracing the mobile messaging imperative.
